Speaker: Laura Higgins, TCEQ
Laura serves as the Team Leader for the Lead and Copper Monitoring Team within the Water Supply Division at the TCEQ. Her team ensures that public water systems protect public health and comply with the Lead and Copper Rule by minimizing lead and copper levels in drinking water, primarily by reducing corrosion of plumbing materials.
Prior to joining the water supply division, Laura performed assessments of drinking water laboratories as part of the Laboratory Accreditation group within Office of Compliance and Enforcement at the TCEQ. She served as the senior microbiologist for that group and has previously worked as a bench microbiologist for both private and state laboratories.
Laura received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Texas A&M University and has helped author two papers on various microbiology topics. She has enjoyed over a decade’s long career as a public servant and is passionate about protecting public health.
