Welcome to Austin ASCE!

The Austin Branch of the Texas Section of ASCE currently covers Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Lampasas, Lavaca, Lee and Llano counties in Central Texas, and has a membership in excess of 1,000 civil engineers. The Austin Branch is also responsible for mentoring, giving support, and coordinating with the University of Texas at Austin Student Chapter of ASCE. We host monthly Branch membership meetings from September through June that include speakers on various engineering related topics, which give you numerous opportunities to get your PDH’s. President’s Message

ASCE, which was founded in 1852, is America’s oldest national engineering society and represents more than 144,000 members worldwide. Our mission is to provide essential value to our members and partners, advance civil engineering, and serve the public good. The board and committee chairs of the ASCE Austin Branch are geared up for the new year. Officers were installed at our September membership luncheon and our committee chairs have an excellent slate of activities that are already underway! Younger Member Forum

YMF Conf

If you are a member of the Austin Branch and 35 years old or younger, then you are a member of Austin YMF.  There is no additional cost or membership fee.  YMF hosts regular happy hours and other social events, interacts with the UT Student Chapter, does community outreach, and creates and manages the Austin Branch PE Review Course.  YMF is a great way for young engineers to grow their network and gain leadership experience!

There are many ways for our members to get involved in our activities, including elected positions, committee chairs, committee members, or volunteers.  Between the Younger Member Forum, Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Engineer’s Day at the Children’s Museum, or the many other events our members participate in, there is something for everybody.  Contact an officer or committee chair to find something of interest to you.

ERWI Workshop – June 11, 2012

Please join the Austin Chapter of EWRI, in association with the Austin Branch of ASCE, for the 7th Annual Environmental and Water Resources continuing education event. This technical workshop will focus on the theory and practice of modeling water quality BMPs in conjunction with their efficacy in protecting receiving waters. Speakers will include academics and practitioners who will present the results of their work on the Water Environment Research Federation (WERF) project, “Linking Stormwater BMP Systems Performance to Receiving Water Protection to Improve BMP Selection and Design.” The project team will introduce the WERF Stormwater Research Challenge, summarize the state of knowledge regarding BMP performance, and present the theoretical background for tools developed in conjunction…

E-Week is on the way and so is the annual Engineer’s Day at the Austin Children’s Museum organized by the Austin Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Government Employee Grant Program

The Austin Branch encourages local Civil Engineers starting out in their careers who are employed by government agencies to be active members of ASCE. The grant program will award up to two recipients reimbursement for a full year’s National and Local ASCE dues. Applicants must be: (1) a full-time employee of a government agency and (2) not be eligible for ASCE membership dues reimbursement from that agency. Applications are due on January 23rd, 2012 and can be downloaded directly from the ASCE Austin Branch website.
